Understanding the Difference
Both PUR (polyurethane reactive) and EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) laminating machines are typically used in the process of bonding decorative films, veneers, and other surface materials onto fit for purpose substrates such as MDF, plywood, particle board and WPC. The biggest differentiator is the adhesive technology PUR machines have one of the reactive PU hot melt adhesives(PUR), while EVA machines use conventional ethylene vinyl acetate hot melt adhesive(EVA).
Bonding Strength and Durability
PUR laminating machines offer noticeably more reliable bond performance. PUR adhesive after reacting with moist air formed a permanent structure cross-linked structure, have strong resistance to high temperature, moisture resistance and aging resistance. EVA glue primarily uses mechanical bonding and can melt at higher temperatures.
Application Range
PUR laminating machines are used for high-gloss PET panels, acrylic sheets (kitchen cabinets, bathroom furniture, interior doors), SPC flooring and many other types of premium decorative panels. As for EVA laminating machines, they are more often used to do general furniture panels, interior decoration materials and lower cost applications.
Production Cost Comparison
EVA adhesive is typically also more economical, easier to work with, and thus provides lower production costs on the front end. Although PUR adhesive is their expensive, the low glue consumption rate and high product quality bring down operating costs over the long term, providing a better avenue for investment in premium markets.
Environmental Performance
PUR hot melt adhesive is solvent-free and has no drying process, and this means additional energy savings και environmental friendliness. This caters to the growing demand for eco-friendly production within Europe, North America and other high-quality markets.
Which Machine Should You Choose?
When your products require a higher degree of bonding strength, gloss finish, moisture-resistant and longevity, PUR laminating machine is the way to go. For lower production cost and general laminating applications, an EVA laminating machine may be a more pragmatic choice as opposed to using better, but also more expensive films.
